Great news for Downtown Wilmington

This week is exciting in Downtown Wilmington - we're seeing new businesses opening and our friends at Chemours and Buccini/Pollin are working on some long-term plans.

The Buccini/Pollin Group has purchased the historic DuPont Building from Chemours and will lease it back to the Wilmington chemical company on a long-term basis as part of a significant redevelopment that could turn the 110-year-old landmark into a mixed-use facility.

I am excited about all that this means for our Downtown Wilmington community!

Great things are happening here.

Coffee Mode - First Ribbon Cutting of 2017

I can think of no better way to start a new year than with the opening of a new business in Downtown Wilmington.

In the lobby of 919 Market Street is Coffee Mode, where you can now enjoy some truly unique coffee and tea offerings as part of the third wave coffee movement.

You can check out photos, video, and more on the ribbon cutting event from WDEL and Town Square Delaware.

Here's to an exciting 2017 - we're off to a great start!

Downtown Wilmington featured as a great place to live

North American Van Lines has a great resource for people moving to new locations - a guide listing places to check out in the region.

A recent post on the guide outlines places people should check out when they move to Wilmington, including The Grand on Market Street.

Here's an excerpt:

The Grand Opera House is a majestic performing arts theater that's dedicated primarily to opera, ballet and symphony shows. However, other concerts and events are held at this ornate opera house from time to time. Tickets to these shows are very affordable, providing you with the opportunity to travel to The Grand Opera House on numerous occasions. As there is a lot of variety when it comes to the events held at the opera house, you're sure to have a different experience each time you stop by.

I am proud that Downtown Wilmington continues to get national recognition as a quality place to work, play, visit, and live.

Free Parking!

I want to make sure you know about the free parking that is offered in Downtown Wilmington during the holidays.

Starting this Friday, November 25 - and going through January 1, 2017 - the city of Wilmington is offering free street parking in the Downtown District (2nd to 12th, French to Washington) and the Riverfront area starting at Noon each day.

Keep in mind that you still have to follow the time limits posted, but you don't have to "feed the meters" after noon.

Also, remember that parking is always free on weekends in Wilmington.

You can read more about the policy by clicking here.

I hope you will join me in taking advantage of this free parking to shop, dine, and enjoy all that Wilmington has to offer!
