Jennifer Boes, Executive Director of the Greater Wilmington Convention & Visitors Bureau (VisitWilmingtonDE) shares her thoughts on why Wilmington is One of Best Places to Go in 2023!
Wilmington is finally getting the attention it deserves! After shout-outs from the Philadelphia
Inquirer, Food & Wine, Fodors, Forbes, and more, our city nabbed one of the top spots in Condé
Nast Traveler Magazine’s annual “Best Places to Go in the U.S.” list for 2023.
This luxury and lifestyle magazine has a global following of more than 6.7 million readers and
more than 8.3 million social followers. That’s a lot of eyes on our city!
This year, editors chose 23 best places to go (because it’s 2023, of course). Wilmington was
included with other “best of destinations” including Boston, California’s Central Coast, Las
Vegas, and Park City, Utah.
Here’s what Condé Nast Traveler had to say about Wilmington:
“Delaware may be best known for its breezy southern beaches—but up north, Wilmington is
drawing attention for a wave of new restaurants transforming the city into a bona fide food
destination.
“When The Quoin Hotel opened in September, Wilmington’s first boutique hotel added three
new dining and drinking destinations. Set in a historic brownstone designed by renowned
Victorian-era architect Frank Furness, the stylish 24-room property is home to a warm
neighborhood restaurant, a moody cocktail lounge, and the city’s first rooftop bar.”
“A few blocks away, grand dame HOTEL DU PONT reopened its outdated Green Room as brasserie
Le Cavalier in late 2020. The freshly uncovered original terrazzo floor and saffron velvet
banquets make a modern backdrop for enjoying plates of chef Tyler Akin’s tuna crudo and
mint-flecked lamb shoulder.”
This is an exciting and well-deserved recognition for our city. And we believe it is only the
beginning. With so many new offerings for our residents and visitors that have come online
recently (or are slated for the near future) and a strong spirit of teamwork that runs through
our tourism and business development communities, we are setting our sights high.
If you haven’t been Downtown lately, I invite you to come check out all there is to see and do
