Downtown Visions Celebrates The Holidays and The Creative Class at The Mill

On Monday, December 11th, creatives, visionaries and entrepreneurs gathered at The Mill in Downtown Wilmington, DE to celebrate not only the Holiday Season, but also to learn more about how creativity and the arts are helping to transform the commercial district.

Speakers included Mayor Michael S. Purzycki, Martin Hageman, Executive Director of Downtown Visions, Mark Fields, Executive Director of The Grand Opera House, Wilmington DE and The Playhouse on Rodney Square and Robert Herrera, Founder of the creative co-working space The Mill Space.

Guests not only enjoyed the beautifully decorated modern space and light refreshments, but an insightful conversation on the progression of the district thanks to creative endeavors.

Looking to do some holiday shopping Downtown? Or heading into town for a show at The Playhouse on Rodney Square or The Grand followed by some fine dining at one of the many highly rated restaurants? 

Here are the holiday parking regulations: From 12PM-6PM each weekday through 12/29, the City will not require payment at parking meters in the Downtown Business District (2nd St. to 12th St., and French Str. to Washington St.) and in the Riverfront Business District. 

A Building Restored to its Former Glory and Brand New Apartments on Market Street!

A historic staple of Market Street at 2 East 7th has been restored and 15 brand-new apartments named 618 MKT are now available to call home! Above 4,500 sq ft of retail, the new apartments are stunning, with stainless steel appliances, quartz countertops and beautiful views of the city below. 

The grand opening not only celebrates the new apartments, but also the historic building façade being restored to its original Queen Anne Style dating back to 1895. Just a month following the MKT Place grand opening, which houses the community’s amenities including a fitness center and resident lounge, the resurgence of energy continues on Market Street as more people call it home. An Old-School Shoe Repair Shop Keeps Wilmingtonians Feet Looking Fancy!

In a day and age where things seem disposable, Michael Flood has been bringing old soles back to life since the young age of 16, when he began learning the trade. 

With a charming small shop in downtown Wilmington, called Show Tech, I stopped by to drop off some information but was quickly struck by the amount of customers coming in and out. Recalling my favorite purse slung across my shoulder was being held together by a safety pin, I put it on the counter. Doubtful, I asked, "Can you fix this?"

"Of course, that would be easy, it'll be done by this afternoon," Mr. Flood explained. 

The purse was as good as new. From now on, instead of thinking I need something new when a favorite pair of shoes or purse breaks, I'll take them to Shoe Tech first. 

I encourage you to take a look in your closet and see if there is a long lost treasure that you would love to have repaired. Take it to 111 W 9th street and you will not be disappointed. Check out these impressive before and after images!
